Beautiful Photo Radar Ticket

Today has been a definitely weird/off-ish day. At work KK and I were losing our minds! Things were not coming out of my mouth correctly… and we laughed it off.

I came home from work and got ready to defend myself at the office about the 10 day notice letter we received. My mom stopped by on her way home to be there for us. She walked out of her car wearing a suit jacket with a pencil skirt and her purse. She definitely looked like our lawyer!

We spoke with one of the leasing consultants and she grabbed our file. Apparently there was a “10 day notice” letter last Monday for us but we never received it. Go figure since they leave it on your door for anyone to see. So technically the letter we received last night was our 2nd letter.

I tried keeping my cool when talking to her. While she was busy talking directly to me and my mom… Tyler managed to read off some papers that were in our file on the desk. It’s definitely people below us reporting us since the compliant said “Neighbors upstairs…”

Unfortunately the community manager had just left for the day so we had to make an appointment to meet with her hopefully tomorrow or Monday.

After my mom arrived home, she paged me…

Mom: “You got busted by photo radar. A ticket came in the mail.”

Me: “Ugh, I knew it. What does it say?”

Mom: “I have to send it in saying it wasn’t me then they’ll send you the ticket. I think it’s $181 bucks”

Me: “Ouch… you’re accusing me!”

Mom: “Sweetie, but it’s the most beautiful picture of you!”

Just wonderful!! Definitely not my day.

Haha, I know I wanted it to be over with.

I guess it might be the whole crazy Tyler thing at night. Hopefully we’ll be meeting tomorrow not Monday!

Lol – no, I was driving my car but my mom bought the car for me so it’s under her name even though I paid her back.

You should meet my mom! She’d love you. I can’t believe you didn’t meet them graduation weekend. Or did you? I’m losing my mind.

Tell me about it! Lazy cops sitting in a van all day long snapping pictures. Ugh!

Hi there! What a story about your appartment. I don’t like people who complain directly to landlords or whatever before talking to the people themselves and see if they can solve it. I hope it will turn out okay!

Just wondering…what kind of magazines are you reading? I love reading magazines as well (next to books). I have four subscriptions and besides that I buy some when I do my grocery shopping. Love them! Those are all Dutch ones so you won’t know them. Only the Marie Claire but also the Dutch version.

    bye

LOL Your mom is funny!! You have to laugh about that. I know tickets suck, believe me I’ve had plenty of them (thankfully none as of late).

Keep us posted as to what happens when you meet with the person in charge.

They should had talked with them-they think its easier just to kick you out not them you know?! Its so wrong! They need to hear your side of story! Please let me know more about this! Hugs

Well, if it’s a great picture of you, then you could use it for your profile, and that’s less than a normal sitting fee would be, right? ;-)

You may be in luck. I could swear, I read something even more persuasive earlier yesterday, i.e., that photo tickets are illegal because they violate both the US and AZ Constitutions, but without that, there is this:

    http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/02/23/20090223thomas-speedcameras23-ON.html

OK, I got it. Here’s the other source, but it’s sketchy, to say the least: It’s from BCHS’s “The Creek Chronicle: The Buzz of Boulder Creek,” (red flag #1) and it says, “GOP state lawmakers fought against the speed cameras on Loop 101 and wrote legislation to vote to eliminate the use of these cameras. In a surprise decision, Justice of the Peace (red flag #2, kinda, but maybe not really) John Keegan ruled that these cameras are unconstitutional and that it counters the U.S [sic] Constitution’s equal justice (red flag #3) under law, as well as the Arizona Constitution’s equal privileges and immunities clause.” (could be another red flag, however I’m not very familiar with the AZ Constitution, so who knows?).

#3 scares me most, though. Equal PROTECTION under law, I’m familiar with. Equal JUSTICE, um, not so much! Therefore, and for other reasons (no offense, Lauren), I would go with the AZ Republic article instead of this one. (Meanwhile, there’s a really cute picture of a mutual friend of ours on p. 9, there!)

Well, good luck with that! What will be the ultimate outcome of previously issued tickets (before these decisions were issued) is also up for grabs. But if $4M in state proceeds already from these photo tickets are up for grabs that the state could conceivably now owe alleged previous violators, then the state is in further financial doo-doo than it currently is, and that’s bad. REALLY bad!

On the bright side, you MAY not have to ever pay that fine, but just don’t expect to be able to educate your future children in this state either, or even keep them safe. No biggie!

Was your ticket civil or criminal? Even if civil, there have already been objections that such tickets are ridiculously pricey! Personally, if it was for 10 mph over or less, I would agree. But what do I know? You shouldn’t take any legal advice from me. (Just have your mom add some boilerplatey stuff here to that effect later. Thanks!)

You’re fun and interesting, Stephanie! I LOVE your blog posts recently! Can you tell?
