The Boogeyman

June 23rd, 2009. Posted in My Life.

I’m thinking about getting a security alarm installed in our new house.

I’m always waking up in the middle of the night thinking that there’s a boogeyman in the room ready to attack me. I always make Tyler get out of bed to check the entire place to make sure the boogeyman doesn’t exist.

The same exact thing happens with my Mom and even one time she thought my Dad was the boogeyman and ran around the house while my Dad was chasing her to get her to calm down. I’m so glad that has not happened with me and Tyler.

I wonder if this happens to me because when growing up I knew my parents could hear everything even hear me turning the pages while reading Nancy Drew books. I knew I was safe in their hands. With Tyler, he’s hard of hearing and cannot hear a thing at night because he’s heavily sleeping and snoring!

Maybe I need to stop reading the news about all these bad things happening.

I would definately invest in the home security system. My parents have one at their house and 10 years ago someone broke in and the alarm scared them off, so you should invest in it because they are totally worth it!

Maybe it’s something else making you anxious or jumpy?

Ugh I feel you. I hear all sorts of weird things at night and I make J check – we do have an alarm but it doesn’t help that much. Imagination is a scary thing sometimes.

First of all, Yay for another Nancy Drew reader!!! :] I still read the books sometimes, just to bring back memories.

& I TOTALLY know what you mean. I felt so safe sleeping in my parent’s house because my mom is such a light sleeper. She can hear flies peeing in the other room. So I always slept so soundly, just knowing that my mother’s ear were somehow protecting me.

Jonathan is a HARD sleeper. We live right next to a fire station, so the sirens often wake us up in the middle of the night. Sometimes he doesn’t even hear them! I shudder to think what would happen if a burglar were to come in. & my dog is just as worse. She’s everyone’s friend, so no doubt she would LICK the intruder first before ever barking.

I’m totally on par with you. I’ll wake up with a weird feeling, jump over my bf to turn on the light, then sit still like a sitting duck, just to ensure that whoever is in the room will be caught. Of course, no one is there, bf gets annoyed, and I go back to sleep… usually. lol

Wasn’t there an old movie called the Boogeyman? I’m pretty sure I watched that, along with way too many scary movies as a kid. Also, one too many episodes of Law & Order SVU

My old apartment was a duplex that had no alarm system and little security and I hated it. I slept lightly and just never felt totally comfortable. My alarm system is my best friend. Totally recommend it.

I think it’s just about being a girl, honestly, I’ve always been told through media or my parents that people are going to try to take advantage of me- and then through crime shows? Scared me so much! It’s natural, but if you can do something about it I totally would.

Ok, I’m a total wimp. We got an alarm and it gives me quite a bit of security. Actually, just having the sign and stickers on our windows give me security. But I like knowing help is just one button away. I HATE when my husband is away on business. I get so scared, I lock my own bedroom door!
