Tattoos

I’ve always wanted a tattoo but never knew what I wanted on my body permanently. At the end of Summer 2006, I knew I wanted to get my favorite quote tattooed on my foot and decided to do it that day before I chickened out.

I was so nervous and wishing the tattoo artist would hurry up and get this over with. I nearly broke Tyler’s hand from squeezing it too hard. It didn’t last any longer than 3 minutes. It felt like someone was irritating me to no end and it was so hard not moving my leg instead of kicking the tattoo artist across the room. Sometimes I would forget that I have a tattoo until I see a stranger staring down at my foot trying to read what it says.

In the Spring of 2008, I decided I wanted another tattoo of 4 stars on my other foot. The 4 stars represent the 4 men who were dear and special to me that passed away. Both of my grandpas, step-grandpa, & a good family friend Tom.

This time it was more painful than the first tattoo. It took forever with the filling of the stars. I was sweating like there was no tomorrow and couldn’t breathe very well. The last star faded a little bit but not too bad. I don’t think I’ll get a touch up as I’m done with tattoos.

My parents asked me what I was going to do if I was 70 years old and didn’t want my tattoos anymore. I know that’s not going to happen. If it seriously happens, I don’t care, I won’t be staring at my own feet anymore. I’ll be wearing socks!

Do you have any tattoos & what’s the story behind it?

I loooooove the quote tattoo! I’m too chicken to get my own tattoo. One of the reasons being I hate needles and the other being I don’t know what I would want on my body forever.

1st one – rose, my favorite flower and something i’d been dying for since i was 15.
2nd one – 3 hearts, trust love and friendship with my bestie gracie.
3rd one- amore la vita, means love life in italian
4th one – wild flowers and “may your life be like a wild flower growing freely in the beauty and joy of each day” i’m a quote fanatic so i felt that quote fit me well.

I have four tattoos, on my left wrist I have my zodiac and on the other wrist are two Japanese symbols for strength & happiness – they were both gotten to remind me that my best friend is never far away. I have three starts on the back of my neck – Sadly I got them just to get them. Then I have the Japanese symbol for ‘the ocean’ on my ankle because I’m such a water baby. I have a music note wrapped in ivy on my left shoulderblade that my mom designed. It’s to symbol that my whole being is made of music but also extremely guarded.

My next tattoo is going to be on my foot! I want the word ‘rose’ in scripture on the side of my foot for my grandmother & mother.

I have a chain of hibiscus flowers coming up from my lower belly to the side of my rib cage… it’s been my birthday present to myself this year (http://prinzessins-welt.blogspot.com/2009/02/birthday-present.html)

I love the stars! So pretty. I don’t have any tattoos but sometimes I think about getting one. Maybe one day… but it has to have some sort of meaning. I don’t want one for the wrong reasons.

No tattoos for me! I still think about them but nothing permanent or attractive enough to put on my body forever. :)

i have one. on the hip. the bone hurt as it went down my leg it tickled. i want another but i am definitely in the frame of mind now – when im older what if i hate it? i love my current tattoo but part of me wishes i thought more about it.. though i could always just get it changed. but then again its not me who looks at it. and is strategically hidden under my underwear too :)

i love your foot tattoos! i have one on my foot too, right on the same spot where your quote is. it’s three music notes that i got with my best friend. one for every year we were in a production together. we were drunk when we got them (really… i have the youtube video to prove it.) and i wish i had thought a little more about the design, but it just adds to the story i think. :)

I love the look of foot tattoos and yours are awesome. I don’t have any tattoos myself, thought I’ve definitely been tempted a few times. I’m not up to the commitment right now.

I’d like to get a tattoo someday. Possibly soon. (Husband’s cousin owns a tattoo parlor, so I may have to stop by in a couple months.) I plan on getting something like this on my back: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_aRaiBU2UPPg/SgmpQsW0V9I/AAAAAAAAABU/81yuVjx_w1I/S660/Dandelion+Tattoo+3.jpg (except the birds will be flying in the opposite direction).

For me, it symbolizes life and death; basically, when someone passes away, they continue living through others.

I love that! What a great quote; something that I need to remember, myself. :]

Oh, I just adore that first tattoo! I really, really want to get one of my favorite quotes or phrases tattooed on me – I’m just so horribly indecisive. And I also want to find a place where I’ll be able to cover it when I’m older (good point on the socks – heehee).

I have one tattoo – it’s on my lower back, and it’s of two Chinese characters that mean “blessed”. (I’ve been meaning to make a blog post about it, actually – thanks for reminding me!) I got it when I was 19 or 20 and I adore it. People get really rude when they call it a tramp stamp or whatever, or think it’s silly for a white girl to get another language tattooed on them, but I genuinely love it. It’s perfectly symbolic of the place I was at when I got the tattoo. I have no regrets.

I really want to get another one, but I want to wait until I’m 100% sure – like I was for my first one.

I don’t understand why people are so sensitive about how they will feel about having tattoos when they are older. As though at 50 you turn into a different person or your 70-year old wrinkled and saggy skin would be beautiful if you just didn’t have that tattoo. Tattoos aren’t for everyone and those that aren’t fans don’t understand the thoughts of people that are, which is where “you are going to regret that when you are old” comes from. As long as you are careful about choosing and getting tattoos you probably will always hold some value for them. Don’t get one spontaneously unless you are someone who does not regret even their boldest failed actions in life. Personally I choose a tattoo and then spend a long time thinking about that one tattoo. When I feel like I am ready, which has been longer than a year in some cases, I talk to my tattoo artist who I selected through friends and by reviewing his past work and he and I collaborate on a drawing. In the end I trust him and his guidance and I have seen him steer others away from tattoos that do not fit. This works for me, a careful planner of a person. Whether any of my current tattoos are ones I would select the same if I had it to do over again is not an issue for me. I love them all and they are a part of my identity.
