I don't understand why people are so sensitive about how they will feel about having tattoos when they are older. As though at 50 you turn into a different person or your 70-year old wrinkled and saggy skin would be beautiful if you just didn't have that tattoo. Tattoos aren't for everyone and those that aren't fans don't understand the thoughts of people that are, which is where "you are going to regret that when you are old" comes from. As long as you are careful about choosing and getting tattoos you probably will always hold some value for them. Don't get one spontaneously unless you are someone who does not regret even their boldest failed actions in life. Personally I choose a tattoo and then spend a long time thinking about that one tattoo. When I feel like I am ready, which has been longer than a year in some cases, I talk to my tattoo artist who I selected through friends and by reviewing his past work and he and I collaborate on a drawing. In the end I trust him and his guidance and I have seen him steer others away from tattoos that do not fit. This works for me, a careful planner of a person. Whether any of my current tattoos are ones I would select the same if I had it to do over again is not an issue for me. I love them all and they are a part of my identity.

Oh, I just adore that first tattoo! I really, really want to get one of my favorite quotes or phrases tattooed on me - I'm just so horribly indecisive. And I also want to find a place where I'll be able to cover it when I'm older (good point on the socks - heehee).

I have one tattoo - it's on my lower back, and it's of two Chinese characters that mean "blessed". (I've been meaning to make a blog post about it, actually - thanks for reminding me!) I got it when I was 19 or 20 and I adore it. People get really rude when they call it a tramp stamp or whatever, or think it's silly for a white girl to get another language tattooed on them, but I genuinely love it. It's perfectly symbolic of the place I was at when I got the tattoo. I have no regrets.

I really want to get another one, but I want to wait until I'm 100% sure - like I was for my first one.

I'd like to get a tattoo someday. Possibly soon. (Husband's cousin owns a tattoo parlor, so I may have to stop by in a couple months.) I plan on getting something like this on my back: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_aRaiBU2UPPg/SgmpQsW0V9I/AAAAAAAAABU/81yuVjx_w1I/S660/Dandelion+Tattoo+3.jpg (except the birds will be flying in the opposite direction).

For me, it symbolizes life and death; basically, when someone passes away, they continue living through others.

I love the look of foot tattoos and yours are awesome. I don't have any tattoos myself, thought I've definitely been tempted a few times. I'm not up to the commitment right now.

i love your foot tattoos! i have one on my foot too, right on the same spot where your quote is. it's three music notes that i got with my best friend. one for every year we were in a production together. we were drunk when we got them (really... i have the youtube video to prove it.) and i wish i had thought a little more about the design, but it just adds to the story i think. :)
