The Next Project: Fireplace

October 28th, 2009. Posted in Home Decor.

I’m anxious & excited to get started on our next home project: a faux fireplace!

Usually other homeowners with this kind of space would build in a desk and use it as a place where to put bills and go on the computer. We have 4 bedrooms so we converted one into an office for both of us.

When we first moved in I was disappointed we didn’t have a fireplace. What were we going to tell our children about Santa Claus? He needs a way in to leave them presents. I know there are a lot of other ways for him to come in but I like the chimney method.

Tyler and I went to Home Depot the other day to get an idea of what we would need and the price of everything. We already painted the backsplash the same color as we did with our TV area in the family room. Since we already have a bold color, we decided the fireplace will be white. I love the idea of displaying candles. We have some marbles that I want to add on to give it an elegant look.

I hope we finish this project this weekend and not get distracted. Stay tuned!

That will be so cool! Does it get cold enough to warrant a fire? We had a real fireplace in our old house, but I didn’t even know how to operate it!

You are so inspiring me. If only I had some extra money and time floating around!

@Elizabeth – You’re not the only one — I didn’t know how to operate my parents’ fireplace (theirs is gas). They use theirs only around December & January.

My parents also have a “faux” one. It works with gas. It’s pretty awesome and heats up the whole living room in the winter.

I can’t wait to see how your project turns out! From what we’ve seen so far you guys have a really good eye for decorating.

I agree with the chimney method. How fun! I can’t wait to see the finished product :o) I know I say this all the time when I comment on your renovation posts, but this totally inspires me to work on my house!

Yay I love hearing about your new projects, y’all always do an amazing job. I can’t wait to see the results. :) I love fireplaces, it just give homes even more character. My parents has gas too, but we only use it to start the fire then keep it natural? Either way, it’s nice and toasty. :)

FYI, I just made a new and improved blog. I won’t be using wordpress anymore. Some other people have motivated me to make it the way I did. I’m tired of doing blogs just because other people are, so this time I’m really doing it for myself. :)
