Sticking to the Budget!

Friday, December 4th, 2009

We’re on a tight budget this month because it’s Christmas after all! We did our food shopping last weekend and figured out what we’d need for the week. So last night we had. . .

luxec_tuna

tuna fish on english muffins with cheese melted on top. Can we say YUMM!? As Tyler was putting this in the oven I told him I had to take a picture and he quickly cleaned up the cooking sheet, “I know you’re blogging this picture!” I guess he knows me too well…

We have been looking for ways to save money here and there. The switch for AC and heat has been turned off! This way I can dress warm in the evenings and wrap myself up with a blanket since I don’t have a snuggie. And it’s about time we sleep with our duvet cover since it was always too hot to sleep with it.

We will be cancelling our Blockbuster account – I can’t believe we’re paying $30 a month when there’s the Red Box & NetFlix. The only problem with NetFlix is that the movies online aren’t closed captioned. Netflix, you suck! Also we have Showtime only because we love Dexter so much. We’ll be cancelling our subscription as soon as the last episode of Dexter airs which is soon by the way. So sad!

My next plan is to get Tyler to cut back on his shower time. He’s up before the sun is at 6AM and spends 20 minutes in the shower. Is it even possible to sleep-shower?! My shower time is 5 minutes or less because I’m always in a hurry to get back to bed and sleep for an extra 5-10 minutes.

It definitely feels good being conscious of our budget & sticking to it knowing we’re saving money.

Ask me to take a picture…

Zella Loves to Bounce!

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

I found an entry from my old blog about the day that Lolla (my old car) died:

Lolla’s gone. On Wednesday I was driving home and the engine was clanking so I pulled over to check the engine while it was running and the engine was literally clanking up & down with a valve coming off. I got my sidekick out and scrolled down & up on my AIM buddy list to see if there’s any boys out there at RIT that know stuff about cars. Seriously there’s almost none? except troy, but he had class. I ended up paging Tyler at work and he came to my rescue. We left my car there and went home and waited for the tow truck to come and tow it to get a diagnostic test and see how much it’d cost to repair. They called my dad and said it’d cost $4,000 to fix. So goodbye Lolla.

I talked with my parents on Friday night and told them I wanted 3 things back from Lolla. 1. Gas, I just filled Lolla up the day before she died. 2. My wipers, I just bought new ones last week. 3. My all weather tires. So I’m going back to see Lolla 1 more time tomorrow to get my license plate off (Arizona represent!!) & my wipers.

Soon it’ll be 2 years since I’ve had Zella (my car) and I’m ready to give her up. Zella has been acting more & more like Tigger lately – bouncing like crazy because of the struts that needs to be replaced. We’ve decided we’re not spending more money on Zella & won’t be replacing the struts. We’re hoping to buy a new car sometime early next year. Until then I’ll be bouncin’ (hopefully it’s not that obvious to other drivers).
