Sticking to the Budget!

December 4th, 2009. Posted in General.

We’re on a tight budget this month because it’s Christmas after all! We did our food shopping last weekend and figured out what we’d need for the week. So last night we had. . .

luxec_tuna

tuna fish on english muffins with cheese melted on top. Can we say YUMM!? As Tyler was putting this in the oven I told him I had to take a picture and he quickly cleaned up the cooking sheet, “I know you’re blogging this picture!” I guess he knows me too well…

We have been looking for ways to save money here and there. The switch for AC and heat has been turned off! This way I can dress warm in the evenings and wrap myself up with a blanket since I don’t have a snuggie. And it’s about time we sleep with our duvet cover since it was always too hot to sleep with it.

We will be cancelling our Blockbuster account – I can’t believe we’re paying $30 a month when there’s the Red Box & NetFlix. The only problem with NetFlix is that the movies online aren’t closed captioned. Netflix, you suck! Also we have Showtime only because we love Dexter so much. We’ll be cancelling our subscription as soon as the last episode of Dexter airs which is soon by the way. So sad!

My next plan is to get Tyler to cut back on his shower time. He’s up before the sun is at 6AM and spends 20 minutes in the shower. Is it even possible to sleep-shower?! My shower time is 5 minutes or less because I’m always in a hurry to get back to bed and sleep for an extra 5-10 minutes.

It definitely feels good being conscious of our budget & sticking to it knowing we’re saving money.

good for you Stephanie. it’s hard to stick to a budget but every little thing you do helps. Zach has a snuggie and loves it haha. I’m not kidding. He wanted one really bad and now he talks about it all the time on fb. Are you friends with him on there? You’ve probably seen it. Those english muffins with tuna look good. I just had english muffin pizzas for lunch. Only 6 points on my weight watchers yay :P

Me and my boyfriend are just now discussing the dreaded B word. Seriously, I really hate the idea of limiting ourselves, but it’s really smart when you start looking at where all the money is being wasted. Very smart of you!

Oh good job! We recently went down to the lowest level on netflix because we never seem to find the time to watch the movies we get from there. And we canceled our gym memberships because we didn’t use them. We’re definitely working on being better about eating out as well. Because woah! it adds up!

You can watch all the episodes of “Dexter” on SurfTheChannel – with captions!

Budgeting isn’t fun, but I like the results! We cut out most sodas when we go out to eat, and we’re selling so much stuff to make the move easier.

    Fun times.

Jay and I are going to be coming up with some sort of a budget for the new eyar, so I’ll have to check back here and use some of your tips! We’ve never felt the need to come up with and/or stick to any sort of budget because we both – for the most part – don’t really spend a lot of extra money and we both make enough at this point to where we never really “have” to scrimp and save.

Howeeeever, we have been thinking about how much money we waste every month, and we’d like to see how much money we could put away into savings every month if we actually kept track. So, we’ll see, I guess. I think I do better with saving when I have an actual goal in mind, so I’m excited!

Also? That good looks amazing. I need to buy tuna now, thanks to you. Toasted tuna sandwiches = yum. And I’m so jealous of your kitchen. Amen. :)

    Your kitchen look so beautiful!!!

YOu could never get me to cut back on my shower time, that shower time is my sanctuary! LOL!! I usually shower for 15-20min every morning, it’s when I can (usually) ESCAPE from my kids and their “Mama, mama, mamas” and their early morning bickering. Seriously tho, who wakes up and just starts arguing with each other?? WHAT is there to argue about so early?!
    LOL
