Holes in The Walls…Yikes!

January 20th, 2010. Posted in Home Decor.

Apparently I have an issue with the walls. I’m scared to hang anything up that I’m not sure about. I keep waiting until the spark comes…whenever that is. Once you put screws in the wall, there’s a HOLE in your wall. It was fine for me putting holes in my old bedroom at home, college dorm (oh… filling the holes with soap worked! shhh!) and apartments….. except for our house. You see… this is OUR HOUSE!

I also have a tendency of changing my mind too much. I know it drives my family and Tyler nuts. Believe me… I drive myself nuts sometimes too. Being indecisive is not fun to deal with when being a new homeowner.

I got the curtains I wanted from West Elm for Christmas. I love how airy it looks during the day when the sun is beaming in through.

I got a sconce for Christmas and it took me weeks to decide where to put it up! I couldn’t even watch Tyler put a hole in the wall and hang it up. It’s like your kid getting a shot at the doctor’s office.

People can stop hinting that our walls are bare. We are very aware our walls are boring right now and hopefully I’ll get over this lame weakness and find something we both love to hang up. SOON!

What about if you painted them, that make them look less bare?

They are painted. We wanted a neutral color so we could add color here and there as we go. – steph anne

Even if you painted your walls the accent colour in your curtains, it would still be a neutral but not a plain white one, you know.. you`d be surprised the difference paint colour makes.

DO IT!! I’ve put holes in walls everywhere I’ve gone – it can just make things feel so *homey* if you have pictures of loved ones, good memories, beautiful art there in your space that’s just yours.

    I love your curtains :)

Gorgeous curtains :) And I love the idea of painting the wall the color of the curtain graphic.

    LOVE the curtains! Very fresh.

I am the same way…unfortunately here we HAVE to know that something is going to stay b/c our walls are concrete! SO if we need to make a hole its a huge one- and its really permanent. Blech!

LOL I’m the same way. I never like whatever I do for long — my problem is painting. I like a color, paint it.. and three weeks in go… that should actually be this color…

you should do the whole jackson pollack on one wall where you splatter paint like crazy :) there are tons of options and its just easy! :)
but yeah, your first home – id definitely understand, its like your first child! you’re not so sure on how to take care of it – haha

Theres some putty type stuff to hold up stuff, instead of holes.

I’m also reluctant to put anything up on my walls because I have to REALLY love it, bare walls just don’t bother me. Its not just the hole fear either. I think you can get some sticky hook things instead, I saw those on TV once.

I am the exact same way. I keep shelves and photos propped up against the wall for AGES before Matt gets annoyed and hangs them himself. Haha, it is just too difficult to decide where they will look best. This is why I like the computer, there is an undo button!

BTW, I love how you decorate everything. Come do my house please.

We have the same (or similar) couch as you! The color is perfect, it goes with any color scheme we like! A nice neutral.

I totally get this, and I still live in a rented apartment. But PS, that sconce is GREAT!

i agree with margarita and sean!

the accent colour in your curtains would look GREAT on the walls- even if slightly lighter. i think it could really tie the pieces together.

either way your house is super cute! i always look forward to your design updates ;)

Cute curtains! I don’t worry about holes in the walls….I figure they can always be patched! I was even going to hang up new pictures recently knowing that I would be moving out in less than 6 months, however, my fiance convinced me not to!
