it is amazing how one second can change everything. the boyfriend has been done for DUI but over here in aus our laws are significantly different – no jail time. he lost his licence for 3 months and received a $400 fine. he was barely over – but its no excuse. he hasnt done it since. and he only done it cause we drove home his friends who were extremely intoxicated. go figure.

Being that I am a fairly new reader to your blog, I just now read this post and the others about your accident. First and foremost, I am glad no one was seriously injured (apart from a broken arm).
I am glad you are finally getting close to the end of wrapping up the legal aspects of your accident, and I hope you will feel a little better about it every day. Injuring someone else in a car accident must be awful, that is one of the things that scares me about driving.

My boyfriend stops very frequently to help people on the side of the road (change tires, battery jumps, whatever). It makes me nervous because many people get into accidents and hurt/killed because they are simply doing a good deed by trying to help others. I cannot imagine how I would feel if he were killed trying to help someone (even if it’s himself)! My heart goes out to both families involved in the accident you witnessed today.

I think you should definitely write a letter to the people you hit. Write it tonight. Write it tomorrow. Perfect it. But hey, maybe you don’t have to send it. Just writing it out sometimes helps you feel better. Get it out there. (I’d suggest sending it, though.)

I’m very glad the family doesn’t hold a grudge against you. I would hope that in the case of most families when there is an accident like this, that they are very understanding of how you feel and that it was an accident (DUI is another story, though).

    *HUGS* Stay strong! :)

Oh I definitely think you should write a letter. So often in this world feelings go unsaid and I can tell how awful you feel – I’m glad they don’t hold a grudge, too. I just read the story about what happened and I’m so sorry this happened, to you and the people involved – but I’m glad you’re moving towards closure. Big hugs, lady.

It makes me mad that the instructor insisted that everyone should tell why they were there. For a lot of people that’s simply embarassing and for others it is hard to repeat over and over again what happened. You are and were hurt just as much as the other person involved in the accident was hurt. It’s difficult for both parties. But I am glad that very soon you will have closure regarding the legal part. Hopefully you will also find personal closure. Stay strong!
