Time is Free, But It’s Priceless

I’m behind with Google Reader and my TV shows. I really don’t want to know what I have been doing instead. I think it has to do with being way too addicted to Super Mario Bros. I can now say we finally finished it so I’m done with video games for a while! I don’t know how Tyler can play video games all the time and not get sick of it. I guess it’s something I’ll never understand…

Recently I have been trying to figure out what I want to do with my life right now. Tyler and I need to take advantage of it now while we are still young and do not have children. We do want to have children some day but right now we still have things we want to do for ourselves. I do not want to have children until I lose weight first anyways. When we do start a family we want to be able to say we accomplished things we wanted to before becoming full-time parents.

I recently discovered that they have a boxing club in the area. Their website and FAQ page has me convinced to join. I’m going to check it out on Monday anyways. Trust me I’m not joining to become a professional boxer…that’s not my goal. I love their insight of how you can lose weight and become fit with punching bags, exercising with kettlebells, jump roping, drills and conditioning. Both my parents are interested too but I’m not sure which one of them is going to join me. On the other hand, Tyler loves dodgeball and unfortunately they don’t have a team here at our community center. He is going to look into trying to set one up though and I hope it works out since I want to see him do something he loves.

I’m excited to see what this month and upcoming months will bring for us especially becoming more involved in our community.

I really miss getting involved with my community – in school they encourage it, and get you to do all kinds of things. But after that I suppose life gets bigger and more intense so you just kind of forget. Hopefully when I finish university, I’ll be able to do something – I’d love to organise arts and theatre events for people because it’s a passion of mine to get people involved in it. :)

Good luck with the boxing – it sounds like a great plan! I’m always scared of classes in case everyone knows each other and I’m the outsider, but I suppose everyone is there for the same reason and we can help each other along!

That is a beautiful quote! Good luck with the boxing, and I hope things work out for Taylor with setting up his own dodgeball team at the community center, that sounds like a wonderful idea!

First of all, that photo of you two is GORGEOUS. One of these days I really need to find a photog friend to take photos of my husband and I – we don’t have any professional quality photos worthy of framing (within the past four years, I guess). I’m so jealous!

Anyway, I think it’s absolutely awesome that you’re looking to find some new hobbies and activities to connect you more to the community. I wish that my hubby and I lived in more of a “community” – we live in an area where there really isn’t any sense of tight-knit-ness. If that makes any sense. Neighbors don’t really know eachother and there isn’t really a community vibe. Ugh. So annoying.

But I would love to get more involved with things like theatre and maybe a book club. If something even exists like that in the area. Heehee. If only there were more hours in the day!

Also, it’s nice to know another young couple who aren’t in a huge rush for kids. As much as I have fleeting baby fever, I know that in reality I’m not ready right now. In a few years I’m sure I’m going to want to start trying (I really want to have at least one before I’m 30, and I’m terrified I’ll struggle with infertility) but right now it’s so nice for my husband and I to just enjoy being husband and wife – and being able to fill our time with whatever we want.

    :)

Boxing sounds great! It’s not boxing, but some of the best (and fittest) times of my life was when I was doing Tae Kwon Do. I’m thinking about getting back into martial arts one way or another. I think it is awesome that you’re doing what you can to make the most of your time right now–you’re right, it is so very precious.

I’ve never heard that quote before and I think it’s very true. You guys are smart to get some goals out of the way before having children – I hate hearing stories of people having kids and then they can’t do this, they can’t do that…. Kudos to you:) I’ve never tried boxing but it’s definitely something that would be fun to do!

What a fun idea!! I’d love to hear about it if you go ahead with boxing. D and I had a talk similar to this while we were on holiday – we were talking about the places we really wanted to see together in the world, and how it might be hard to afford to go – but at the same time, we’re young without children yet, and now is really the time to see those places and achieve those dreams while we still can. It’s important to think sometimes that when life seems hectic or busy, we’re still lucky in that we still HAVE time in the evenings and weekends to ourselves, and we should really take advantage of that. :)

Video games can be totally consuming! I used to play WoW all the time and sometimes we’d play until the sun came up!

    That’s a lovely photo.

I was addicted to Super Mario Bros last year. It’s addictive and ridiculous. I’m glad you finished it. We did too.

Good luck with the boxing. You’re very inspiring. x

I love that quote. I’m nowhere near having kids (um, got to find a man first), but I often think the same thing – I will not become a mother until I can get my weight under control. And… I’m doing a terrible job.

Let me know how boxing goes! There’s a boxing gym in the next neighborhood over, & I’d really like to try it!

  9. Jamie

Boxing sounds like it would be way fun and such a great work out. Good luck!

  10. Jessica

Oh the boxing gym sounds like fun. I’ve read up on the kettlebell workouts and I’ve heard amazing things about it. Keep me posted!

You look stunning! It sounds like you are really motivated about losing weight by finding other avenues that interest you. Boxing sounds amazing. I wish I had used the Golden Gloves Boxing arena in Knoxville, but I didn’t.

Definitely do lots of things you want to do. Kids are great to have, but there are just some things that would be better done before having them. Enjoy the two of you for a while.

I always wanted to be older when I had kids (like 28-30), but now I wish I had done a few more things before I did. I had Aidan when I was 28, but I have no regrets. He is now here to join us on new adventures! :)

  12. Ys

My husband and I think the same way – we can’t wait to be parents yet we want to live our lives first before starting our family.

The boxing sounds like a great idea. I’ve heard it keeps you very fit.

  13. Stephany

I’m not married yet (or even close to it) but I have the same feelings as you do on waiting for kids. I know of plenty people my age who have kids and I just couldn’t IMAGINE having a baby right now. I just feel like I have so much I want to achieve and accomplish before I settle down and have some kids. While I know people don’t (totally) regret having their kids, I have seen how it puts a bit of a damper on educational plans, traveling plans, career plans, etc. But when the time feels right, all those plans will mean nothing to having a baby.

And the boxing idea sounds like a lot of fun! I think boxing would be such a fun way to have a good workout and not as boring or mundane as running or using the elliptical at the gym. Can’t wait to hear more!

(Also, should mention that I found your blog through 20SB!)

Let me know how boxing goes, I’ve been wondering about that in my area!

Have they let you know when your fitbit will ship? :) Can’t wait to have my first fitbit buddy!

  15. somer

    beautiful photo!
i play games and sadly i’ve never played super mario! :P
boxing is good for conditioning (especially the jumprope part!)
    good luck on everything! :)

  16. elle

meowza! you look gorgeous in that picture, lady.

  17. Laura

Boxing is definitely worth looking into! The park district building two blocks over (well, I can see it from my backyard) has boxing so I was going to check it out. Unfortunately, I discovered it’s only for children up to age 18. Boo! Good luck with that.

ALSO – Dodgeball is awesome. I know of a weekly dodgeball group here in Chicago that tends to get together twice a week and play at a park around 9pm at night. It’s become more popular and anyone can join or just show up for one game (or every week). I hope Tyler accomplishes that! I’m sure many people will be interested.

  18. Randi

What a BEAUTIFUL photo. You two are stunning!!

  19. Angie

I’ve been behind on visiting my favorite blogs (amending that today) and video games are partly to blame! Damn those things. I got addicted to the Sims 3 again (I’m all about the $ cheat)!

I would be doing all kinds of travelling.

  20. Sassy

Super Mario for the Wii I am guessing? Because it is amazing. I haven’t played in a week. I will probably break it out tomorrow!

Getting involved is such a good thing. I can’t wait to have a stable home so I can get involved!

  21. Hope

I used to take kickboxing classes. They were a lot of fun! Definitely got me all pumped up and ready to go!

  22. Erin

Beautiful picture! And yes- do the fun stuff while you can! :)
