Spring Cleaning

March 18th, 2010. Posted in Home Decor.

The flowers are blooming from all the rain we got over the past few weeks and the temperature’s rising to the 80s this week. Just a perfect way to start Spring by cleaning and organizing literally everything in our house.

Trust me, it wasn’t all joy & awesome! I had no problem throwing things away while on the other hand…Tyler had issues. Some things he never sees only when we clean and still wants to keep them. I got caught a few times trying to throw some things away and he later found out. I guess next time I shouldn’t use a clear garbage bag!

We have more snacks than things to make meals with. We have our canned goods stored in a pull out drawer on the island in our kitchen. This way we can keep our pantry closet more organized and to the point where we can still see everything.

This cabinet is rarely opened! Tyler and I don’t like wine or beer except for mixed drinks. Now the only thing we really need to do is get a proper wine opener for our guests. It’s embarrassing to let them use our cheap wine opener from college. Believe me I’m stocked with wine stoppers since that was our wedding favors and we had more than enough to take a bunch home ourselves.

Finally this is more organized, I forgot to take a before picture of this. I guess I was too excited to get this organized! I forgot we had another small bamboo cutlery tray that we weren’t using so I added it in. It’s easier to grab what we need in seconds than scramble through the drawer.

Tyler’s giving me his famous sign where he shoots himself the head and blood splatters out on the other side of his head. Whatever! He does that sign all the time when he doesn’t want to do something. This closet in one of the guest rooms was the worst to clean and organize and we didn’t want to go through it. That closet is now pretty much empty since the majority of everything else like our Christmas stuff went into the garage.

This is my side of our closet! It seems like I have more clothes in the after picture. Maybe it’s because I had a lot of laundry to do and I still managed to throw out a lot of clothes I haven’t wore in years. I still can’t give up my t-shirts that are sitting on the top shelf at the end. I’m saving them for the days when we’ll paint and do landscaping. We’re going to add a shelf on the bottom for our jeans/pants because it’s not fun trying to reach the top shelf for something I need.

Look at all these clothes we’re getting rid of!!

Spring has officially started for us…

Now…what about you? doing some cleaning too?

we’re absolutely doing some cleaning, although at a slower pace than you guys! i’m weeding out the closet, and organizing every nook and cranny. pacing myself since i am also ripping tons of junk out of the yard and replanting with nicer, less intrusive plants. oh, and i keep forgetting to take before pictures too! wish i would remember to document a bit better.

Wow I’m impressed! I wish I had some sort of organizational skills. However I can’t organize my way out of a paper bag lol. Great site!

That’s so awesome! I love to see things lined up in a pretty row. My hubby is the same way- about twice a year I go through his closet while he’s at work and get rid of stuff he NEVER uses! He hasn’t noticed yet, and it’s been almost 4 years! :)

I just did some MAJOR spring cleaning. I cleaned our closets & drawers, I dusted bookshelves, I revamped the main room in my apartment, & I delivered huge bundles of stuff to the thrift store. Our weather here is very much like yours in Arizona; it’s warm & inviting, so I can’t help but do a bit of spring cleaning. It’s in the air. :]

I need to do the same: clean out my/our closet and do some thrift store runs. I have so many clothes that I haven’t worn in ages. It’s about time to get rid of them.

Wow I am really jealous of your organization. The pantry looks great and so does the silverware drawer. I so need to go back and do this in my own place.

Oh wow, very impressive! I haven’t done any spring cleaning yet but as soon as it gets a little warmer, I’m going to tackle our mud room – we use it as an excuse to store things/throw things into because nobody sees it, but should anyone ever come in through the back they’d better be prepared for a bit of a minefield!!

I rarely clean but when I do I go absolutely crazy, and it involved moving a lot of furniture, throwing out tons of stuff, and then going OCD and moving things an inch to the left/right etc.

Funnily enough, I have been doing some cleaning this week. Got the scrubbing brushes out and washed down the windows and skirting-boards. I haven’t started tackling the knick-knacks yet. We’re planning on moving in the summer so I’ll save that job for nearer the time ;)

We don’t have much left to clean, after purging pretty much everything we owned before the move. It must be such an amazing feeling to have everything all tidied up!

Wow, you guys did a lot of work! I really need to do some spring cleaning. I have a bunch of stuff in all these little places but no real organization to it all. I’ll probably do my spring cleaning in May, haha.

Great photos and great spring cleaning!

i love that feeling when you finally accomplish something you’ve been meaning to do and know will clear out your life a little…it’s so refreshing and invigorating, like a good scrub. i haven’t had to do any major cleaning out for a while now, mostly because i just moved twice in the past year. i’ve left a lot of stuff behind, but i haven’t had to really pick and choose what to keep or not due to clutter. i keep the necessities close to my heart and enjoy my time with everything else while it lasts.

I am horrible about spring cleaning. I’m just not a fan of cleaning in general. I like things clean but getting them that way is an entirely different story. What a great head start you all have gotten! Congratulations!

    Steph Anne,

You sure did accomplish a lot! That is such a good feeling – thanks for sharing your household triumphs, provides me with a little inspiration.

Wow everything looks great, especially your pantry. I must admit, I am not going to do any major cleaning in this apartment anymore. I’ve only lived here 1.5 years of which I was away for a third of it, and I am only going to live here for another 5 months so I will just wait until then. I will be busy with exams until a month and a half before I move anyway. Obviously I will do the usual cleaning until then, but no re-sorting of my closet or anything like that.
