To Have a Spotless, Fresh, & Sparkling House Seems Impossible!

May 11th, 2010. Posted in General.

It’s so hard to accept that my house will never look this beautiful AND clean! I know everything is picked up and clean for photos but still. Is it too much to ask for?

I’d be lying if I said my house was clean and picked up. I want to live in the dream of photographs where everything is clean at all times no matter what. I wish that my bed would be magically made the second I get out of bed in the mornings. I want to pay the bills in a fashionably organized way without cluttering up my desk.

I’m obsessed with how I want things around the house. Lately I’ve been too tired and busy to clean every day to keep up and make sure the house doesn’t look like a tornado has hit! I go bonkers when the house is a mess. No joke! Ask Tyler… he knows a clean and organized house makes me happy.

Am I the only one that feels like I spend a lot of time on the weekends cleaning? I guess I take after my Mom. I’d rather spend 15 minutes a day cleaning so I don’t have to spend hours on the weekends cleaning. Believe me I do this after the house is clean only for a few days then the slacking begins. It sucks when Tyler and I both aren’t in the mood to clean….. that’s probably how things get messy around here.

I used to love doing laundry. Now I hate it. We’re on an energy saving plan where we use the dishwasher & washer/dryer after 9PM weekdays and anytime on the weekends. So because of that our clothes currently resides on the floor in our bedroom after piling them up from the dryer in the mornings. Oh and we always keep our bedroom door closed when we do have clothes on the floor. If we didn’t have it closed then our clothes would have cat hair all over.

I guess the solution to this is to have guests stay with us. This is probably the only time our house really stays clean! Anyone? :)

I have the same problem. I *try* to pick things up as they get messy… but I’m just lazy. I end up spending my entire weekend cleaning. I would love it if my place would stay perfect all the time, but I just don’t have the energy.

It feels like I’m always tidying up, and putting things away and rinsing a cup but it never STAYS CLEAN. ARG! J is really bad at leaving things lying around and I’ve given up on telling him to put things away all the time. It just annoys me AND him.

“Ask Tyler… he knows a clean and organized house makes me happy.” This made me smile – I actually may have asked D to get me cleaning maids as a birthday present this year!! I never used to be bothered by a messy house, but recently it’s the thing that can prevent me from being able to enjoy a lazy Sunday or an evening off if there’s chores to be done. I think the only way of getting around it is making the extra effort after meals daily to do the dishes etc. after we’re finished eating before settling down for the rest of the night. The BIG projects (like our “storage” room!!) are better tackled with a whole scheduled Saturday perhaps, so once they’re done, they stay done!

That picture you posted is how I’d LOVE my house to be :) In fact, I’m not too bad at keeping it clean. It’s like you say: you get out of the urge to keep it that way and it gets messy really quick.

Oh, I’m so with you. No matter how much I clean, I still feel like there’s cat hair EVERYWHEREEEEEE. Ugh!

UGH i have the SAME PROBLEM. we have too much stuff for our 1 bedroom apartment, so all of our crap just spills out onto the floor. our closets and cupboards are too small! my mom’s solution to this is too purge some stuff, but I.DON’T.WANT.TO. lol i like my stuff.
as soon as i do laundry and the dishes, i’m all over my fiance to “live clean” and not make it messy. but after a few days we slack and it’s bad again.
we’ve decided that once i have a full-time job and a house, we’re getting a weekly cleaning lady.
    so i guess that’s my solution :p

I’ve actually had some luck with a chore chart. Even though I’ve never followed it 100%, I do things more often than I did without it.

After about 3pm, there is no cleaning done in my apartment. That’s when J gets home and he loves to lounge. I only work from about 9am to noon every day for right now, so when I get home, I like to organize the little things that were strewn about the night before. I do the dishes from dinner and breakfast by hand (we loathe the dishwasher) while I’m heating up some lunch, I move all the dirty clothes into our laundry room to separate for washing the next day (we only do up to three loads of laundry a week if we can help it)..it’s almost therapeutic. I leave the sliding patio door and bedroom windows open to create a nice, fresh cross-breeze in the apartment while this is going on so I can sort of empty the place of its day-old scents and dustiness. If there’s not much for me to do, sometimes I’ll vacuum or dust and just toss paper things into neat little piles. Our place is by no means spotless, but I do like to be able to see the floors and counter-tops, haha.

Basically, I try to put things away as I take them out, or at least keep them together for easy return when I have time.

Lately I’ve been itching to have a place I can decorate. My current apartment is SO temporary, even if I’ve been here nearly a year. I have two messy male roommates. And I’m loathe to invest money in a place that’s not mine & not permanent… but… but… I’m DYING TO!

I have nothing to say. Other than I commiserate. I can’t keep anything clean.

Oh, I am the exact same way! Luckily, I live with my mom and she LOVES to clean. Seriously, doing the dishes is her favorite thing to do. Ha.

Me? I only clean when I’m procrastinating, mainly towards studying and working on school projects. Haha.

Oh my gosh I’m so similar to this. I love a clean house but no matter how hard I try I can’t get it that way. When I have people over though I clean like I’m a possessed woman, so obviously that needs to happen more. My place stays clean for 2 seconds.

The puppies have, in large part, won this battle in our house. But we vacuum twice a week & are always dusting and keeping things pulled together! It’s a bit of a battle, but it’s worth it, even if it doesn’t last.

I am SO with you! With two cats I find hair EVERYWHERE no matter how much I clean. Not to mention my messy hubby…

Hi! Found your blog today (don’t recall where or how), but I wanted to introduce myself, I’m Angela, but you can call me Ang. I also stole your idea of asking people for picture ideas (gave you credit though). Just so you know, I do comment, but I also lurk… ;)

    Have a great Wednesday!

Purging some things seem to help. We have two tiny closets, and you know what? Sharing is NOT fun. But it felt really good to get let go of some things and donate them for people who need them way more than I do.

Perhaps Sean and I will be a good motivator for you in about a month, if we definitely have time to meet up or visit your house during our drive to CA. :)

I’m the SAME WAY and probably need guests to stay at my house permanently to have it stay clean. But then if they became, like, roommates, I’d stop cleaning.

I try to do a good cleaning about once a week, but it gets so challenging when you have a lot of other things you have on your place, right?

Blah! I hate cleaning! Usually I don’t care if the house is messy, I’m content to leave it like that until I get the urge to clean — but John wants to clean right away! Other times I will get in a cleaning mood and then get overwhelmed because, like the title of your post says, it just seems impossible to have a spotless house! For example, if I really truly try to clean the kitchen 100 percent, the counters will never be perfectly clean, there’s hidden crumbs, piles of mail, etc etc! It kind of makes me want to give up! I realllly need to clean out my closet! And a million other things!

My house is cleaner than the one in the picture. The picture above has to much clutter on the counter , I have 3 things on my counter and everywhere else is cleared off .
On my kitchen table I have 4 placematt to match and fall flower arrangement . On my stop is clean including floor.
My living room , I have 2 items on end table , lamp and one picture . Area rug , coffee table with one item on it , and one hair , I don’t have clutter in there either . My entire is house is like that , the homes you see on HGTV or you see homes in the realestate to be sold . I don’t like clutter . Everything is in its spot .

P.S. That kitchen is to white , no color …….

One my stove is clean and floor too .
