Thank God They Were Only Bad Dreams

July 7th, 2010. Posted in My Life.

I hate those days when I wake up feeling like the dream was real and then I can’t seem to shake it off for the rest of the day!

Last night I had a dream where a bunch of friends and I were in a house hanging out. A friend and I were in another room checking out pictures on the computer. After a while, we both saw the door open slowly and we couldn’t see who it was since it was pitch dark. We started laughing because we thought a friend was playing around and was getting ready to scare us. Two guys we didn’t know busted in and started shooting at us then left the room. I started bawling and didn’t know what to do and when I looked over at my friend, he was dead. I ran out of the room and saw that all 10+ friends were shot and laying all over the place. None of them were moving. I saw Tyler, my husband, faced down on the floor. I was hysterically crying while trying to call 911. It was horrible!

I hate it when I have bad dreams like this because it feels so real like I went through that horrible ordeal but I’m really grateful that it was just a dream.

This is normal anyways…. supposedly I have a history of waking up in the middle of the night screaming bloody murder and almost giving Tyler a heart attack. One time I thought the house was on fire for real and I was this close to jumping out the window until Tyler confirmed me the house was not on fire.  Also there has been countless of times where I’ve woken up thinking there was a boogeyman in the room ready to murder us and poor Tyler would have to get up and check the entire house just for me so I would feel safe and go back to bed.

Maybe I need to buy a dreamcatcher but I’m not a kid anymore so it might not work. By the way, remember those things?!

I’m jealous of those people who can easily dream of puppies, kittens, cupcakes & rainbows!

Anyone else going through the same thing with bad dreams?

For years I suffered from night terrors… really horrible ones, and there were times I stopped breathing in my sleep. I found out that horror movies were triggers for me, so I stopped watching them. Since I haven’t really had a nightmare or anything that scared me too bad.

I totally suggest getting a dream catcher. Age doesn’t make a difference, you just have to believe that it works!

Yikes, that would be scary. I’ve had some scary dreams too – usually after reading or hearing about something, I think about it before bed and end up freaking out later. I finished a book on domestic violence last night and had a dream straight away about people I love being affected by it, it was horrible. Woke up wide awake at 5am! I vote for the Dreamcatcher. They’re so lovely, AND I love the meaning behind them too.

This isn’t quite as horrific, but I have been weirded out that I keep dreaming about my Betta fish Kevin dying. Normally it’s something that I did and I’m trying to save him and I can’t. Like he didn’t have any water the other night and I was trying to get him water as soon as possible but I have to put a certain amount of drops into tap water before he can live in it and I couldn’t get it done in time. Or my cat eats him. Or I accidentally flush him down the toilet and try to scoop him out in time. Then his dead body keeps popping up throughout the rest of the dream.

I don’t have nightmares all the time but when I do they seem to stick with me for a very long time. Hate that!

I HATE scary dreams and I’m totally the same way, I can never seem to shake them off easily either. The one that always stays with me is the one where my teeth crumble and break and all fall out in my hands, one time I got up and BOLTED to the mirror to see if they were still there!!

Also sidenote? I was at a Mary Kay night last night and there was this gorgeous photo of Mary Kay when she was young

And it totally reminded me of you (minus the retro hair lol) :)

Uargh, awful. I hate bad dreams like that. Why would we dream stuff like that anyway? I still don’t get how our minds deal with “everyday” stuff by presenting us with blood and death and fire in our dreams. So weird.

I’m the same way- honestly, I’ve just stopped watching horror movies and scary TV shows. No CSI, stuff jumping out from behind stuff and murders, I’ve swapped those tense shows out for Bones & Lie To Me & I haven’t had a nightmare in a really long time :)

i had a dream catcher as a kid and never once had a nightmare.

when i was living with m i started having night terrors… basically whatever was happening in the dream was happening in real life. if i was being choked in the dream, i would wake up because i couldn’t breathe. scary stuff.

i’ve been having lots of unsettling dreams lately… i feel you :(

Lately yes, I have been having a lot of trouble with those dreams. I think a dream catcher is a great idea. I don’t know if it makes a huge difference but it couldn’t hurt! I also hate those dreams when you think they’re real and you can’t shake them even after you find out it didn’t happen.

For a while I had terribly vivid dreams about miscarriages and deformed babies. After I heard the heartbeat, those started going away, THANK GOD. I was running to the bathroom in the middle of the night convinced it was all over. Hate.

Haha I do exactly the same! I’m always jumping out of bed screaming. I’ve done it since I was a kid. Everyone thought I’d grow out of it but I never did. Hehehe.

I dream basically every night and vividly remember each and every one. It’s rare that I don’t. I absolutely hate the ones like yours that leave you feeling hysterical when you wake up.

ugh, those are the worst. I’ve really only had horrible ones about my kids and they are so bad I wake up shaking and sobbing and TJ has to console me until I’m fully awake. I HATE how they feel SO SO real and stick with you for the whole day, I’m always left feeling sick to my stomach :(

I’ve had some really weird/creepy dreams before. Thankfully, usually once I get out of bed I tend to shake them off. But especially if I wake up from them in the middle of the night, it takes me a while to fall back asleep.
