Organizing the Hallway (Mainly Shoes!)

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

See the problem? Shoes all over the place by the front door. It drives me CRAZY especially when Tyler leaves his shoes somewhere else like in the living room, dining room, or heck the kitchen. I have a bad habit of taking my shoes off right when I get home instead of just taking them to the closet in our bedroom. I wanted to keep these “most used” shoes by the door so all I had to do was find a pretty basket.

…and I did! I found this perfect basket from Target the other day. It was around $30 but I knew it would be a good investment and it was better than the other cheap baskets they had. Also it came with a mini chalkboard sign which I liked! Psst, see how pretty clean our grout is now? We finished the house last week. You should have seen the look on Tyler’s face when I jokingly told him we can’t walk on the grout anymore so we have to watch every step we take.

Ignore my cat’s wagging tail under the coffee table. It’s freaky because it looks like a snake AND I hate snakes!

Anyways, doesn’t it look so much better now? I hope everyone will make the best out of it and use the basket instead of leaving shoes all over the place for people (me!!) to trip over.

I’m hoping to get more pictures of the house and create a home tour page. Most of our rooms aren’t fully decorated or finished yet so it’ll definitely be a work in progress.

Heart Paper Quilling & Cut Out Hearts

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

I saw another blogger do paper quilling and made a heart shape. This project looked like fun so I thought I’d give it a try since I never decorate for Valentine’s Day. Sorry I didn’t take pictures as I made mine but you can find instructions here.

I tried it out in different places in the house. I even put it up above the fireplace on the wall by sticking tape on the back of the frame. Tyler rolled his eyes at me for doing this because we both knew it wasn’t going to stay on the wall for very long. I guess I just wanted to see if it would by a miracle and unfortunately it fell down a few hours later.

I love how it looks right next to our favorite wedding photo that was taken by our friend, Jason. So after it fell, I moved it back to the white dresser by the living room/dining room. I didn’t want to put a nail in the wall when it’s only going to stay up for a few weeks.

Also I had too much fun cutting out hearts while watching TV the other night. We bought our coffee table (Expedit) at IKEA a few months ago and it has a glass top so I scattered the hearts around and put the glass top back on.

Okay, I think I have enough hearts in the house for the month of LOVE! :)
