Gonna Sweat the Pounds Off

After our first day at Sweat

So I joined Sweat* again. I actually emailed the owner and told him I was interested in doing it again because obviously I didn’t get anywhere in losing weight. Obviously I had a mid-year crisis – I can’t believe it’s almost July already!? Anyways, he was determined to help me out and had Tyler and I come in to meet with him. He gave us a big discount so we could afford it and stick to it. That was really nice of him! The catch was that he wanted Tyler to do it too because he believes it’s important for us both to do the same thing and have the same goals so we can help each other out.

So we signed up and did the depressing stuff – taking our measurements & weighing in. Then we went over the diet stuff. He expects me to lose 20 pounds in 3 weeks!!! It’s possible but dang… I BETTER lose 20 pounds!

Our first day in the gym was no joke. We didn’t even warm up. He had Tyler do the Jacob’s ladder for 15 minutes while I was on the elliptical bike then switched over to the stairmaster. We were literally sweaty at the end of the hour.

It feels good and I can tell I feel so much better but I’ve been having a few headaches….probably due to the fact that I haven’t had Diet Coke in a while. Overall, I’m looking forward to seeing the results and making lifestyle changes!

*Sweat is the name of the gym. It definitely lives up to its name for sure! People can’t just use the gym anytime. There are many different programs: weight loss, sweat cheer/wrestling, toning, personal training, etc. The way it works is you sign up for the hour you want to go for small group training and there will be a personal trainer working with you individually with about 7 other people. Everyone has different goals. There are also personal training for 1 on 1 but of course those sessions are way too expensive!

Cancer Will NOT Win!

Update #1 & Update #2

Here is an update from my in-laws:
Well, it certainly isn’t what we wanted to hear from the experts at the University of Washington today, as well as the Mayo Clinic, and MD Anderson renowned Cancer Hospital in Houston, as Brent definitely has stage IV cancer called Gliosarcoma and it is terminal. So hard to say and believe but, the average age for having this type of rare & unusual brain tumor is 60 so Brent isn’t the norm because of his age (28). That certainly is in his favor.

This doctor at University of Washington is a specialist in brain tumors and has seen only 2 like Brent’s in 30 years. Also Brent is hoping beyond hope to get into the clinical trial that is really working to prolong lives. He needs to have a certain amount of enzymes in his tumor to get him into the trial. So his tumor has gone from Vancouver, WA to Mayo Clinic, to a special pathology lab in North Carolina (BP Anderson’s Cancer Clinic) and each testing will determine if it fits the criteria. They will choose 50 altogether, 7 will be from the Northwest. So we are asking for prayers for that.

If he doesn’t get in now, he will automatically get in if the tumor returns, which is weird, so the sooner the better. But the problem with this type of brain tumor, just treating it with the normal chemo and radiation just doesn’t always kill the cancer cells. Even though they were able to get 99% of the tumor, the doctor said they never get 100%. So it comes back with a vengeance. Soooooo ugly, this terrible cancer!! Therefore, some don’t live much longer than 2 years. Devastating……unbelievable and just sooooooo wrong and unfair!!!

You can’t just have a headache one day and find out you have a brain tumor as big as an apple in your head and have surgery 2 days later. It’s a nightmare! But we have to hope that the new drug in the trial works and that he qualifies.

We are so heartbroken, sad and in shock and just hope for a miracle. With so many people, some even strangers, praying and sending positive thoughts his way, we are so thankful for that and Brent feels the love all around him. He is now in God’s hands and the doctors hands as well. We are FIGHTERS and SURVIVORS AND WE ARE IN IT TO WIN!!!!! We will take one day at a time and fight the fight and we will NOT let cancer win.

We’ll never give up, no matter what. God bless Brent and all of you for being there for him and for us and all of our family. Thank you for your prayers & support!!!

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Thank you so much for all your prayers & thoughts during this difficult time for us. It means a lot to us and the family! As of today, we are still waiting for news on the lab results of the tumor.

So today is Awkward & Awesome Thursday! (inspired by Sydney)

* Wondering why I looked funny all day to realize at the end of the day that I only had eyeliner on one eye instead of both.

* Not really digging Tyler’s new five fingers shoes and it’s awkward when people stare at us or just his shoes.

* Admitting that I still need help with losing weight. So I contacted the owner of Sweat again & he signed us up with a really nice deal!

* The other day I couldn’t find my iPhone and asked Tyler to help me find it but then I looked up at Tyler and he told me to look at what I had in my hand. Awkward!

* The humidity in WA really got to me. My hair was NOT cooperating with me at all!

* So excited to start again at Sweat tonight and to finally have Tyler do it with me this time. Last year during my first workout session, I threw up. So yeah, let’s see how I do tonight.

* Getting a lot of compliments with Yellow & Savvy Design. I’m so excited to show you a website I just completed not too long ago SOON!

* I got a raise a few weeks ago and it was nice to see a change on my paycheck yesterday!

* Looking forward to “me” time this weekend and to work on websites too!
