Temporarily Parents for 5 Days

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Tyler and I are going to become “parents” for the next 5 days.

My dad is already in Seattle and my mom will be leaving tomorrow for Seattle and will be back on Sunday. This means the teenage sister & mini daschund pups cannot stay home by themselves.

Yes, my sister is 18 and still needs supervision. I jokingly told her that her curfew is 11PM because that’s what time my curfew was when I was a teenager and she has had it easy with 1 or 2AM. So for the next 5 days, I get to put her through what I had to go through. I’m just kidding….kind of.

This will be interesting since we don’t have dogs & kids. Cats are super easy to take care of. That’s the other thing…I hope the pups & cats will get along.

I also hope we make it through this and that there won’t be any stupid sisterly fights or calls to our parents to tell on each other.

P.S. Mom, come home earlier if you can! <3

Parents Appreciative Week… I Just Made That Up

Monday, July 25th, 2011

I hope you all had a great weekend! Most of my time was spent designing blogs. We’re going to be putting up some new pre-made templates on Etsy this week. I’m so excited! We’re going to try to put 1 or 2 new pre-made templates up every month from now on. I even managed to quickly whip up a new design for my blog and decided to go with a 3 column theme.

I’d love to have sponsors on my blog now that I have a 3 column theme. I don’t have all the details yet but I just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in being a sponsor on my blog first before I proceed with this so please email me or leave a comment and let me know.

My sister’s first day at work was this weekend. She works as a bagging chick at the grocery store. My mom texted me telling me she saw her at the store and I just knew I had to go see for myself. I never go to this grocery store anymore since I like Fry’s better than Safeway. So I went inside and spotted my blond sister bagging groceries. She was so into it so I couldn’t get her attention. I tried thinking of things I needed at the store and ended up buying ground turkey and finally caught my sister’s attention when I was checking out. She looked at me like she was not enjoying it at all. I felt bad for her but it’s a job and she will definitely enjoy her first paycheck.

I just love my parents so much! I really do think they’re awesome and I love it when people tell me that they think my parents are so cool and fun to be with. So the other night after we left my parents’ house I just had to text my mom and tell her.

Every time I came home from college or a trip, my family was always there at the airport standing there waving their hands the minute they saw me and plant wet kisses on my face.

Every time I came home from camp when I was a teenager, they always surprised me with a small gift or it was just rearranging my bedroom.

So my parents knew my sister wasn’t having a great weekend with having to work 2 days and longer hours. While my sister was at work today, they cleaned up her room and finally hung up the frames that I got her for her Birthday and graduation. They also brought her dinner to work. Can we say awww? Okay, I admit it…they have spoiled us rotten but we’re so lucky to have them as parents and we do appreciate them. When I’m rich someday, I’ll pay it back to them. For now, they have already gotten the best 50th & 60th Birthday party.

Consider this “Parents Appreciative Week”! :)

Cancer Will NOT Win!

Update #1 & Update #2

Here is an update from my in-laws:
Well, it certainly isn’t what we wanted to hear from the experts at the University of Washington today, as well as the Mayo Clinic, and MD Anderson renowned Cancer Hospital in Houston, as Brent definitely has stage IV cancer called Gliosarcoma and it is terminal. So hard to say and believe but, the average age for having this type of rare & unusual brain tumor is 60 so Brent isn’t the norm because of his age (28). That certainly is in his favor.

This doctor at University of Washington is a specialist in brain tumors and has seen only 2 like Brent’s in 30 years. Also Brent is hoping beyond hope to get into the clinical trial that is really working to prolong lives. He needs to have a certain amount of enzymes in his tumor to get him into the trial. So his tumor has gone from Vancouver, WA to Mayo Clinic, to a special pathology lab in North Carolina (BP Anderson’s Cancer Clinic) and each testing will determine if it fits the criteria. They will choose 50 altogether, 7 will be from the Northwest. So we are asking for prayers for that.

If he doesn’t get in now, he will automatically get in if the tumor returns, which is weird, so the sooner the better. But the problem with this type of brain tumor, just treating it with the normal chemo and radiation just doesn’t always kill the cancer cells. Even though they were able to get 99% of the tumor, the doctor said they never get 100%. So it comes back with a vengeance. Soooooo ugly, this terrible cancer!! Therefore, some don’t live much longer than 2 years. Devastating……unbelievable and just sooooooo wrong and unfair!!!

You can’t just have a headache one day and find out you have a brain tumor as big as an apple in your head and have surgery 2 days later. It’s a nightmare! But we have to hope that the new drug in the trial works and that he qualifies.

We are so heartbroken, sad and in shock and just hope for a miracle. With so many people, some even strangers, praying and sending positive thoughts his way, we are so thankful for that and Brent feels the love all around him. He is now in God’s hands and the doctors hands as well. We are FIGHTERS and SURVIVORS AND WE ARE IN IT TO WIN!!!!! We will take one day at a time and fight the fight and we will NOT let cancer win.

We’ll never give up, no matter what. God bless Brent and all of you for being there for him and for us and all of our family. Thank you for your prayers & support!!!
