Overworked the Mountain

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my last post… it means a lot to me!

On Sunday I overworked myself in the exercising department. I went to the gym then we met up with my parents to go hiking up the mountain that’s behind their house. It wasn’t a real hiking trail that everyone knows of. We were recommended to hike it by my parents’ friend.

As we started off for the mountain, it looked like it was going to be an easy hike. I couldn’t really hike without watching every step I took in fear of coming in contact with snakes. I’m really afraid of snakes! We came across a lot of snake holes and that didn’t make me feel better but I’m just glad we didn’t run into any.

We started hiking up and it was a little bit difficult until we realized we were going the wrong way since the trail ended. So we hiked back down to continue on the right trail. At this point I was exhausted and wanted to call it a day.

While dad and Tyler were a little bit ahead of us, mom kept pushing me to continue. I half-jokingly told her peer pressure wasn’t cool at all! I was left with no choice but to continue because dang it, I didn’t have the car keys with me.

I wanted to sit down so badly on a rock while we rested for a little bit but I kept thinking of a snake crawling up my back if I sat down. We continued up and finally made it to the top! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t complain almost the entire hike up. My excuse was that I was just talking to myself. I even think that would have been a great TV episode to watch me being such a drama queen on the mountain.

The hike back down was a little bit scary. Dad even called out to Tyler who was first in line, “watch out for rolling bodies!” – just great! Dad then decided it was a smart idea to get in front of the line to help us and he almost slipped which resulted with profanity words coming out of my mouth. After a while we finally made it back to the car!

Then on the way back to the house I sarcastically told everyone how that hike was so easy because it was! ;)

Sunrise to Sunset in Paradise

afterswim

Swimming this weekend was actually nice and relaxing since no one was really at the pool all weekend. Probably because of the cool weather we have been having lately. Saturday we went in the hot tub then relaxed by the fire poolside. It reminded me of a Summer night in Seattle with the cool night breeze we had and the sky was clear like always with a full moon.

Sunday morning we got up early and went hiking. Amy adventured up on her own because she walks fast and Tyler injuired his back a few days ago. I tried getting him to admit that it’s just because he’s getting old! Next time we’ll make it to the top when no one has injuries and everyone has enough water.

Sunday night we got the giggles when Skyping with Megan and making fun of Rahul on AIM. I can’t wait until we all reunite again in Las Vegas next month. Summer is going by real quick and I’m afraid to blink to find out it’s over already.

sunset

Everyone was hoping it was going to rain yesterday but instead we got a beautiful view of the sunset from our balcony. Amy and I are suckers for beautiful sunsets and probably will run outside every night to just take a picture like we did last night.

Video Games to Hiking…New Addiction!

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Some of you may know that the hubby has an obesssion with playing WOW (World of Warcraft) and it drives me crazy to no end because I can’t get his immediate attention when I want to. I’d prefer him play “pause-able” (not a word, I know but why not make it up) games. Instead of hearing the typical, “Hold on… I can’t stop right this minute”. I admit sometimes I yell bloody murder so that’ll get his attention, muaha. At least it works…when I don’t overdo it!

A few days ago his computer broke… I don’t know why or what happened. He’s been using his old laptop and doesn’t have much patience with it.

Hubby: “I’m tired of playing WOW…and am actually thinking about cancelling my subscription”

Me: “OMG..I never thought you’d say that…ever!”

Hubby: “Don’t push it… I said I’d think about it”

Me: “I’m sooo excited. What are you going to do instead?”

Hubby: “I want to buy video games for my Xbox”

Just grrrrrreat! Later he admitted that he’d like to do more and discover a new hobby. Lately we’ve been exercising and hiking and discovered a new love for hiking now.

Sunday we decided to invite my parents to go hiking with us (saving that complicated & difficult mountain for another time). We all really had a wonderful time “getting away from life” and just hiking to the top. It’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment at the top. I’m proud of myself for getting to the top AND bottom with a full bladder!!

I’ve pretty much decided that I’m going to run the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 marathon January 2010. It seems like the Hubby and Dad are interested in doing it with me. It feels wonderful to have a great support system and those who want to get involved with my journey. Right now I’m focusing on losing weight and will start training later in the Summer or Fall. Amy, the running machine, will be living with us this Summer so I’m looking forward to having a free “personal trainer”.

Before we know it… Summer will be here!
