Heart Paper Quilling & Cut Out Hearts

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

I saw another blogger do paper quilling and made a heart shape. This project looked like fun so I thought I’d give it a try since I never decorate for Valentine’s Day. Sorry I didn’t take pictures as I made mine but you can find instructions here.

I tried it out in different places in the house. I even put it up above the fireplace on the wall by sticking tape on the back of the frame. Tyler rolled his eyes at me for doing this because we both knew it wasn’t going to stay on the wall for very long. I guess I just wanted to see if it would by a miracle and unfortunately it fell down a few hours later.

I love how it looks right next to our favorite wedding photo that was taken by our friend, Jason. So after it fell, I moved it back to the white dresser by the living room/dining room. I didn’t want to put a nail in the wall when it’s only going to stay up for a few weeks.

Also I had too much fun cutting out hearts while watching TV the other night. We bought our coffee table (Expedit) at IKEA a few months ago and it has a glass top so I scattered the hearts around and put the glass top back on.

Okay, I think I have enough hearts in the house for the month of LOVE! :)

A Cheesy Christmas Post (You Were Warned)

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

I have a confession to make…

I haven’t even started shopping for Christmas yet! I’m driving myself nuts just remembering how it was stupid to do some last minute shopping on the day before Christmas Eve last year and running into mean & pushy people everywhere. I’m determined to make it NOT happen again this year!

I absolutely adore Christmas… it’s my favorite Holiday! The other night Tyler and I watched a cheesy Christmas movie on TV. It was about Santa Claus trying to get his daughter to take over and do Christmas at the North Pole. I told Tyler I would love to go to the North Pole if there was ever one and meet all the elves….and of course everyone else including Santa Claus!

I would thank Santa Claus for all those years he sent me presents because I was on the nice list. Even though when I was little there were some years where I really thought I wasn’t going to get presents because I wasn’t sure how Santa Claus determined who was on the nice and naughty list.

See how cheesy I am about Christmas? I can’t wait to get bakin’ in the kitchen next week! After all, Santa Claus will need cookies for his long ride on the 24th.

Reusing Old School Christmas Lights

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Last year my dad gave us his old Christmas lights that he wasn’t using anymore. Remember those old school C9 lights? We didn’t use them last year so they stayed untouched in our garage for a year until now. When we were going through the garage this year to find our decorations and lights, we came across the old Christmas lights.

I took the lights out of the bag and Tyler gave me a look like he wasn’t sure if he wanted to know what I had in mind for another project. I remembered seeing light bulbs in a small vase at West Elm and this is where I got my inspiration from.

I had him help me unscrew all the light bulbs out and then I filled them up in a glass vase to use as a centerpiece on the island in our kitchen.

I love it because I didn’t spend a dime on this project and it’s so much better than just leaving the lights in the garage for another year. Or even worse…throwing them away!
