To Have a Spotless, Fresh, & Sparkling House Seems Impossible!

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

It’s so hard to accept that my house will never look this beautiful AND clean! I know everything is picked up and clean for photos but still. Is it too much to ask for?

I’d be lying if I said my house was clean and picked up. I want to live in the dream of photographs where everything is clean at all times no matter what. I wish that my bed would be magically made the second I get out of bed in the mornings. I want to pay the bills in a fashionably organized way without cluttering up my desk.

I’m obsessed with how I want things around the house. Lately I’ve been too tired and busy to clean every day to keep up and make sure the house doesn’t look like a tornado has hit! I go bonkers when the house is a mess. No joke! Ask Tyler… he knows a clean and organized house makes me happy.

Am I the only one that feels like I spend a lot of time on the weekends cleaning? I guess I take after my Mom. I’d rather spend 15 minutes a day cleaning so I don’t have to spend hours on the weekends cleaning. Believe me I do this after the house is clean only for a few days then the slacking begins. It sucks when Tyler and I both aren’t in the mood to clean….. that’s probably how things get messy around here.

I used to love doing laundry. Now I hate it. We’re on an energy saving plan where we use the dishwasher & washer/dryer after 9PM weekdays and anytime on the weekends. So because of that our clothes currently resides on the floor in our bedroom after piling them up from the dryer in the mornings. Oh and we always keep our bedroom door closed when we do have clothes on the floor. If we didn’t have it closed then our clothes would have cat hair all over.

I guess the solution to this is to have guests stay with us. This is probably the only time our house really stays clean! Anyone? :)

Spring Cleaning

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

The flowers are blooming from all the rain we got over the past few weeks and the temperature’s rising to the 80s this week. Just a perfect way to start Spring by cleaning and organizing literally everything in our house.

Trust me, it wasn’t all joy & awesome! I had no problem throwing things away while on the other hand…Tyler had issues. Some things he never sees only when we clean and still wants to keep them. I got caught a few times trying to throw some things away and he later found out. I guess next time I shouldn’t use a clear garbage bag!

We have more snacks than things to make meals with. We have our canned goods stored in a pull out drawer on the island in our kitchen. This way we can keep our pantry closet more organized and to the point where we can still see everything.

This cabinet is rarely opened! Tyler and I don’t like wine or beer except for mixed drinks. Now the only thing we really need to do is get a proper wine opener for our guests. It’s embarrassing to let them use our cheap wine opener from college. Believe me I’m stocked with wine stoppers since that was our wedding favors and we had more than enough to take a bunch home ourselves.

Finally this is more organized, I forgot to take a before picture of this. I guess I was too excited to get this organized! I forgot we had another small bamboo cutlery tray that we weren’t using so I added it in. It’s easier to grab what we need in seconds than scramble through the drawer.

Tyler’s giving me his famous sign where he shoots himself the head and blood splatters out on the other side of his head. Whatever! He does that sign all the time when he doesn’t want to do something. This closet in one of the guest rooms was the worst to clean and organize and we didn’t want to go through it. That closet is now pretty much empty since the majority of everything else like our Christmas stuff went into the garage.

This is my side of our closet! It seems like I have more clothes in the after picture. Maybe it’s because I had a lot of laundry to do and I still managed to throw out a lot of clothes I haven’t wore in years. I still can’t give up my t-shirts that are sitting on the top shelf at the end. I’m saving them for the days when we’ll paint and do landscaping. We’re going to add a shelf on the bottom for our jeans/pants because it’s not fun trying to reach the top shelf for something I need.

Look at all these clothes we’re getting rid of!!

Spring has officially started for us…

Now…what about you? doing some cleaning too?

I came home on Friday to find a package sitting by the front door. I knew it was this lovely personalized sign that I ordered from Sweet Savannah! The bottom says, “Est 2008″ since that’s the year we got married. I immediately put Tyler to work and had him hang it up in our kitchen. Of course he’d do anything for his last name!

We’re still not sure what we want to put on top of our cabinets yet. It won’t be chicken, roosters, & wine racks like I notice that a lot of the homeowners here do with their kitchen (Mom, your kitchen’s an exception!). We also need new high stools for the island since the ones we currently have are wobbly and from IKEA.

I love our new table we purchased from Fry’s about a month ago. I thought this would actually make us want to eat dinner together instead of using the coffee table and watching TV at the same time. We’re still working on breaking the habit. We bought our sectional couch from Macy’s on Labor Day weekend but didn’t get it until 4 weeks later. It’s microfiber and the only thing I hate about it is getting shocked when Tyler would lean in for a kiss or hug after getting up from the couch.

We’re taking a break with our house projects until after the Holidays. At the end of this month we have our anniversary and both of my parents’ Birthday AND Thanksgiving too.
