Mike and Ike

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

As most of us know Hurricane Ike is on its way to Texas. Amy (who’s in Austin) and I were talking and figured out WHY this is happening.

Mike and Ike had a huge fight. Enough said! Ike is extremely upset as we all can see, but then I guess Mike got upset later this evening because he came through Phoenix with a dust storm. I love every storm we have here in Phoenix. Tyler and I were doing errands this evening so it was fun to drive through it. Poor kids who were riding their bikes, they had to stop and cover their eyes until the worst was over. As I looked in my rearview mirror I couldn’t really see anything as this huge gloomy dust storm was coming up North…it was like we were all driving away from it before The Mist got to us. It’s actually my first September in Phoenix since the last few years I was in Rochester so it’s actually nice to feel the change as the temperature drops.

Mom came over last night and we completed the invitations!!! I’m mailing them out tomorrow. I took pictures of them but want to wait a while since some of my readers are receiving their invitations and would like to see it for themselves. Patience is a virtue.

P.S. As you can see, new design!! The old one was screaming for a makeover.

Phoenix is Happily a Mess!

10:45PM: STORMS IN ARIZONA ARE SO EXCITING!! Everyone actually gets into it which also makes it even more exciting! Tyler and I stood outside on our patio and watched the storm and it looked like as if we were at a dance with strobe lights going off every minute. We decided to go around the apartment and found a spot where we felt this amazing cool breeze (70 mph wind!) and stood there for a while absorbing the feeling since it’s been so long since we felt a cool breeze (air conditioning does not count!).

[Power went out]

10:15AM: The power went out while I was typing this. We went outside on the patio again and we could barely see anything. The visibility was 0!! It was POURING and all the lights were out. There were cars trying to leave and get in but the gates weren’t working – we were stuck in prison! It was starting to get hot in the apartment because obviously the air conditioner was not on. It was actually cooler outside because of the wind…according to the news,
“Winds in some areas were clocked at 85 mph, which is the strength of a Category 1 hurricane. A wind gust of up to 100 mph was recorded by National Weather Service radar.”
INSANE! Tyler, Blake and I decided to go outside in the rain and frolicked in the flood until a lightning hit near us and scared the crap out of us and we ran back inside. Stupid? I know but gotta live a little and have fun!! We didn’t know how to wake up in the morning because our alarm wasn’t working so we turned on ALL the lights in the apartment. Tyler and I had a hard time trying to sleep because it was so hot! Tyler had this cheap small fan that ran on batteries so we used that until the battery died. All the lights came back on at 2:30 in the morning. Blasted the AC on and went back to sleep!

Tyler had to take a detour to work this morning since the road near our apartment is closed. Phoenix is happily a mess!!! Everyone loves it and everyone is happy. What an amazing storm!

Monsoon Season

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

I love monsoon season!! I love the smell after it rains. Last night there were TWO rainbows, which we saw from one end to another. We were so tempted to go find potluck at the end of the rainbow over Daisy Mountain. Today we could smell the wildfire that’s happening up North of Phoenix…sucks there’s a wildfire but I also love the smell of it. It smelled good outside all day. While on the smelling subject, I need a new perfume.

I had an interview today with NAI-H and it went well because she contacted me for a second interview to meet with the marketing team on Monday. The only negative part is that it’s part-time…but I don’t care anymore. I’ll take it if I get the Intern position whether R.I.T likes it or not.

I start Boot Camp next Monday! I’m excited and anxious but not looking forward to getting up at 5:30AM Monday through Friday for a month. I met with the trainers Jasson and Lori (they’re married) today. They’re really nice people and I think they’re going to be hardcore like Jillian from the Biggest Loser and that’s a good thing since I love Jillian!

Tyler and I get to celebrate 4th of July two times. Tomorrow night is Anthem Independence Day at the park, then Friday we’ll be going to a friend’s to celebrate too. Next week my big sister from Sigma Sigma Sigma will be finally here!! I can’t wait to see her and finally hang out more often.

Off to watch a movie with Tyler before he falls asleep.
